The timeless essence of the land is overwhelming to me. Perhaps that’s why I so rarely put people in my landscape paintings–as creatures we just don’t seem to measure up. Where in my urban/figure paintings I try to suggest a story line, my landscapes are simply my reaction to the land itself. I try to paint what I feel, not necessarily precisely what I see. I move shapes and select colors to express my feelings, though I try to remain true to the scene before me.
